Today in Washington D.C., Congressman David Scott, representing Georgia's 13th district, introduced a bipartisan resolution honoring the late baseball legend Henry "Hank" Louis Aaron. Members of the Georgia delegation joined him to highlight Aaron's achievements, particularly his historic home run record set on April 8, 1974.

Congressman Scott praised Hank Aaron, not only for his baseball feats but also for his contributions to the nation. "On April 8, 1974, Hank Aaron hit his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s record of 714. Today we honor not only his baseball accomplishments but the many contributions he made to this nation," Scott remarked. He further added, "Hank Aaron used his platform to uplift a nation, becoming a symbol of resilience for millions during the civil rights movement and beyond."

Hank Aaron, renowned for breaking Babe Ruth's all-time home run record with his 715th homer in 1974, left a lasting legacy in the Major League Baseball (MLB). He retired as the all-time home run leader, holding the record for 33 more years. To this day, Aaron holds the MLB record for career runs batted in (RBIs), total bases, and extra-base hits.

Aaron's career was marked by challenges beyond the baseball diamond, including racism and discrimination, evident through the death threats he received during his pursuit of Babe Ruth's record. As an African American player in the South, Aaron used his influence to promote equality. He actively supported the civil rights movement, maintained relationships with prominent leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and founded the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation to help children of all backgrounds achieve their potential.
