Here is a quick overview of the decisions made by your City Council during their November 7 meeting. If you would like to see the action for yourself, the full meeting video is available at https://alpharettaga.portal.civicclerk.com/event/2830/media
City Council began the evening by swearing in the new Chief Judge of the Alpharetta Municipal Court, the Honorable David C. Will, and swearing in the Honorable Jamie Bendall as the Court’s alternate judge.
The main item on the night’s agenda was consideration of an application by Trademark Management, LTD that requested a master plan amendment, rezoning, conditional use, and variances to allow for the demolition of approximately 464,000 square feet of the existing North Point Mall and redevelopment of that portion of the 83-acre property. Trademark’s redevelopment plan included:
* 173,700 square feet of retail, restaurant, and creative/shared office space * 402,000 square feet of office space * 150 room hotel * 875 for-rent apartment units * 103 for-sale townhomes * 19 acres (approximate) open space
Following a nearly five-hour hearing, City Council ultimately voted unanimously to deny the applicant’s request. The motion and vote to deny included a provision to allow for submission of a new application after 6 months, whereas a standard denial would have meant that a new application could not have been submitted for one year.
In other business, your City Council approved a lengthy consent agenda and the first reading of an ordinance to amend the City Charter so as to clarify certain contracting procedures and the City’s ability to lease City-owned property or enter into contracts for the use, operation, and management of such property.
