The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has approved the termination of 215 degree programs and certifications.
According to a recent report by Fox 5 Atlanta, institutions can no longer grant degrees for these programs identified by the Committee on Academic Affairs.
"Each institution has reviewed the deactivated programs to confirm that no students are currently in the program or that any remaining students in the program have been appropriately advised and counseled concerning degree program options," the Board of Regents agenda stated.
All the programs were deactivated for longer than two years, with commonly terminated majors at several institutions being foreign language and education programs, as well as graduate school programs.
The board approved the termination of 43 University of Georgia degrees, most of all USG institutions, along with 28 at Georgia State University, 14 at Kennesaw State University and three at Georgia Tech, the report stated.
At Georgia Tech, all three of the terminated degrees were master's programs, while at Kennesaw State, specialist programs in education and teacher leadership and middle grades education were canceled. At Georgia State, geography, geology, as well as special education and deaf education degrees were canceled.
