On August 25, 2022, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office’s Inv. Roach of the Crime Suppression Scorpion Unit assisting APD with operation “Heatwave”, responded to APD investigators who noticed a silver Dodge Charger traveling on Fairburn road. As the vehicle immediately fled at a high rate of speed at the sight of APD-marked units, Atlanta Police Phoenix Air Unit Helicopter continued to give updates on the vehicle's travel so marked units could stay in the area.
The vehicle then parked near 628 Tarragon Way and the sole occupant of the vehicle fled into the wood line. Inv. Roach then arrived on the scene to assist with the foot pursuit. After walking through the woods, Inv. Roach then located the male who after verbal commands fled on foot towards a large pond. He then jumped into the water and began to swim away from the police. APD Officer Teasley and FCSO Inv. Roach then proceeded to swim after the male. The male was later apprehended without incident or injury on the other side of the pond. The suspect was charged with theft by receiving, fleeing, and eluding, possession of tools of a crime, unlicensed driver, reckless driving, and obstruction.
