Fulton County schools and administrative offices will be closed this Friday to celebrate the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves, who defeated the Houston Astros in the MLB World Series Tuesday.
Fulton County Schools tweeted Wednesday, sharing the announcement alongside an image of the team.
“Fulton County Schools joins the metro Atlanta region and fans everywhere in celebrating the World Champion Atlanta Braves,” Fulton County Schools wrote in their tweet. “All schools and administrative offices will be closed this Friday, November 5th. Go @Braves!”
According to a report by WSBTV, Friday events to commemorate the team’s championship win include a parade, set to begin at noon at the corner of Marietta and Peachtree streets, according to the team. Community members are invited to line the route and cheer the team on. A free post-parade celebration and concert at Truist Park will feature performances by Ludacris and Big Boi for those who reserve tickets in advance.
The school closures come as an anticipated large number of students and staff may participate in the day’s events, causing a disruption in learning had classes been held, the article states.
No makeup day or remote learning will be expected for students or staff on the day off, WSBTV reports.
It was the first baseball championship for the Braves since 1995.
