It looks like the scam caller impersonating a police officer is back.
We've had several calls over the weekend about an individual or groups that are calling residents and either impersonating a police officer, a jailor, or a detective. These scammers are claiming that a loved one has been put in jail or that there is a warrant for the person answering the phone. The scammers are then asking for money to be sent via a gift card.
Remember that no member of the Public Safety Department will ask for money over the phone and we do not accept gift cards as a method of paying for citations or bail.
Stay vigilant of these scam callers and visit the Public Safety Headquarters in person if you are unsure that the caller is a scammer or not.
