Putting "water on the fire" involves more than just pulling a lever and sending water from the engine to the nozzle. Did you know that there's important math involved to make it all work out according to plan? Determining what pressures to set each hose line, while overcoming friction loss, is dependent on factors like the type and size of hose, the type of nozzle, appliances used and elevation change to where the fire is being fought.

As firefighters learn to fill the roll of the fire apparatus operator/engineer this is just one important skill to learn.

Last week at the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center we hosted a Practical Fire Ground Hydraulics class that built on these skills. Members from your Alpharetta Fire Department, along with firefighters from Forest Park, Barrow County, Forsyth County and John's Creek took part in this two day class.
