Heart Disease is a leading cause of death in the United States. It affects both men and women of all backgrounds, so knowing the risks can help us protect ourselves, stay healthy and reduce the risk of developing heart disease.
Some of the leading risk factors include:
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Smoking
Diabetes
Overweight or obesity
Family history of cardiovascular disease
Poor dietary habits
No regular physical activity
Chronic kidney disease
Chronic inflammatory conditions
Metabolic Syndrome
The risk of heart disease also increases with age, especially women 55 and over and men 45 and over.
