Temps are dropping it down low…low…low as we head into this weekend. And if you end up pulling out the ole’ generator to help bring some power to your home, make sure you do it safe. Never use generators indoors as fuel burning equipment like these release carbon monoxide which can pose a quick and major risk to your health, and can lead to death.
Here are a few extra safety tips to consider if you or someone you know is going to be using a generator now, or anytime:
Have a battery operated, or back-up carbon monoxide detector in your space any time you use a generator or anything else that burns fuel.
If your carbon monoxide detector starts to alarm, leave your home right away and call 911.
Point the generator’s exhaust away from your home.
Keep the generator at least 20 feet away from your home, and make sure there is proper clearance around it for ventilation.
Make sure to use the proper cords for your generator and inspect it for damage before use.
Stay warm, stay safe.
