An unfortunate side effect of our effort to be transparent and advise residents whenever there is any type of delay or issue that impacts Alpharetta’s curbside trash and recycling program is that it can create a perception that the overall service being provided is bad. Afterall, while we notify everyone whenever there is an issue, we rarely take time to point out the positives.
So, let’s take a moment to put things in perspective and address this misperception.
The truth is that Republic Services has made significant strides towards returning service levels to their pre-pandemic levels, and over the past four months (July – October) averaged 94.29% of collections being made on schedule. When you consider that they have roughly 360,000 collections in Alpharetta each month across our services (trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste) and that the majority of collections not made on schedule are handled the following day, Republic Services is delivering a good level of service to Alpharetta customers.
In terms of customer complaints, the majority of those we receive are related to issues such as damaged trash or recycling carts or leaks from trucks rather than about missed collections.
Still, each month we meet with Republic Services management to review each service delay and discuss the efforts being made to reduce delays and improve overall service.
