Suspended Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley has been traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a move that will bring the Falcons anywhere from a second to a sixth-round draft pick, according to a report by Fox 5 Atlanta.
This is an opportunity to add a proven player to the wide receiver room as the Jaguars continue to build their roster for the 2023 season, Jaguars General Manager, Trent Baalke, told Fox 5 Atlanta.
"As our team continues its growth, we continue our daily focus on improving our roster and believe this move is the best decision to make at this time," Falcon's General Manager, Terry Fontenot said.
According to the report, the pick the Falcons will ultimately land is contingent on when Ridley is reinstated by the league, how much he plays in 2023 and whether he signs a long-term deal with the Jaguars. Ridley may petition for reinstatement after Feb. 23, 2023.
Ridley was suspended for the entire 2022 season by NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, after news broke that he bet on NFL games in 2021 while away from the team addressing mental health concerns.
Following news of his suspension, Ridley lashed out over the severity of his punishment, insisting on Twitter that he does not have a gambling problem and only bet $1,500 on NFL games, the report states.
