The Atlanta Braves Foundation raised money Oct. 1 and 2 through a 50/50 raffle to benefit victims of Hurricane Ian in Florida, where a massive cleanup effort is underway in the wake of the destruction caused by the storm.
In a recent a report by Fox 5 Atlanta, Atlanta Braves President and CEO, Derek Schiller, said Braves fans have seen the devastation and want to help, hoping to raise a significant amount of money for those affected.
"The last two hurricanes have affected us personally with player and staff families in Puerto Rico and Florida," Schiller said. "We are assisting our staff in Florida and thankful they are all safe, but we know there are many others who need help."
As part of the fundraising effort, the team is also offering autographed items through a silent auction on MLB's Ballpark app, with all the proceeds going toward hurricane relief efforts, according to Fox 5.
The defending champion Atlanta Braves recently reclaimed first-place in the National League by sweeping their division rival, the New York Mets, in a three-game series, moving the team a step closer in its quest for a fifth straight division title and back-to-back World Series titles, the report stated. As of Oct. 1, the team had won eight of the 17 games in the season series.
