It took only minutes from one being installed for the first call to come in. “What are those things on the skinny poles along Haynes Bridge Road near City Hall?” One caller thought they might be speed detectors, and another asked if they are trail cameras.
They are actually a new technology used to count the number of cars that pass, and we have installed them temporarily to collect information on traffic counts and patterns along Haynes Bridge Road and Academy Street in Downtown Alpharetta. These units are easier to install and maintain and provide more accurate information than the old method of running sensor cables across the street and connecting them to analog counters.
