A police deputy is listed in stable condition after being stabbed by an inmate at the Fulton County Jail, according to a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Sheriff Patrick Labat told FOX 5 Atlanta the detainee had been brought to the jail by the Atlanta police late Sunday night for an incident in which the person had been charged with misdemeanor terroristic threats.
"He is surrounded by family, both family and co-workers," Labat told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Authorities said the stabbing incident took place when the deputy went to complete processing the detainee and was attacked and stabbed numerous times, FOX 5 reports.
According to the report, investigators have identified the suspect as Richard Parham, adding that they are now looking into how he smuggled a weapon into the jail.
Though Labat said he does not believe the officer will need surgery, he is asking the public to keep him in their prayers so that he can have a speedy recovery.
