With continuous reports of crime at the Martin Luther King Drive Citgo gas station, a group of local Metro Atlanta residents has led protests demanding its closure.

In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the residents, who held a protest in Adamsville over the weekend, said they have had enough of the gas station they say has been a center for crime in the community for years.

"We're here for one reason and one reason only and that's to shut this place down," local resident Ricky Brown told FOX 5 Atlanta. "You've got crime, you've got prostitution, you've got drug sales on this property. You've got shootings and killings and murders. It's all types of crime going on in this property."

Neighbors say the gas station has consistently attracted the wrong element and has been the scene of rampant crime and other bad behavior, FOX 5 reports.

According to the report, in 2022 alone, authorities say the Atlanta Police Department has fielded nearly 100 phone calls at the convenience store alone.

While city leaders insist tenants at the gas station only moved to hire security at the location after being ordered to do so by the court, officials say their attempts to work with store owners to make the location safer have all fallen short.
