A DeKalb County man was charged after allegedly shooting and killing the mother of his child when she picked up the girl from daycare on Wednesday, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The woman, 21-year-old Mic'keya Montgomery, was shot when her child's father, Taco Nash, 22, showed up at the daughter's daycare facility with a gun. Daycare workers attempted to help.
"She was saying, 'No,' you know, and asking for help, yelling out for help, and he got into a physical altercation with them [daycare workers] and threatened to kill everybody and so they ended up just having to let ... her, you know, go with him," Chancierra Coleman, the victim's sister, told FOX 5 Atlanta.
DeKalb County police said the shooting occurred in a wooded area behind Education Elevation Children's Academy on Snapfinger Park Drive in Decatur, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
Montgomery's family said police told them the woman ran behind the daycare facility to escape from Nash. She was then shot and killed as she held their child.
Family members told Fox 5 Atlanta that Nash shot Montgomery in Atlanta two years ago. He then physically beat her in March 2020, and she called the police on two other occasions due to domestic violence. Nash was charged but granted bond on all occasions, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
