All-Sun Belt Conference forward Ja'von Franklin has signed a grant-in-aid to join the Georgia Tech basketball program and will enroll for the summer term, a recent release on ramblinwreck.com said.
Franklin started 31 out of 32 games for South Alabama last year, where he averaged 12.2 points per game and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game, the release said. The Little Rock, Ark., native shot 65.5% from the floor and 63.9% at the foul line.
“We’re excited to have Ja’von join our program,” head coach Josh Pastner said in the release. “He’s an under-the-radar, sneaky good player who had a great year at South Alabama and was successful against good teams. He’ll be a great fit with our team.”
Last season South Alabama posted a 21-12 overall record and finished fifth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 9-7 mark, the release said. The Jaguars received an invitation to The Basketball Classic post-season tournament in Mobile, Ala., where they beat Southeastern Louisiana and USC Upstate before losing in the semifinals to Coastal Carolina in overtime.
