A pair of Athens teens were shot and sent to the hospital after a fight on social media led to gunfire, Athens County-Clarke Police said Thursday.
The shooting occurred just before 1:30 p.m. around the area of East Center and Cone Drive, according to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
This comes as an argument over a disparaging social media post came to a head when the two victims were riding in a vehicle around the area and saw someone, they believed to be responsible for the post, FOX 5 reports. At that time, the fight moved to the street and ended in gunfire.
Authorities said a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and a 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the back, leaving both hospitalized.
The injuries are not life-threatening, FOX 5 reported.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Athens-Clarke County Police Department at 762- 400-7060.
