Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams' campaign has earned nearly $12 million during the three-month period ending April 30.
Abrams — who is running unopposed in Georgia's primary on May 24 — said she now has more than $8 million in cash available after spending millions on her campaign throughout January, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
The candidate recently paused fundraising temporarily, insisting that supporters shift donations toward groups that support abortion rights in the wake of the leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion revealing the intention to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision establishing a nationwide right to abortions in 1973, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Abrams' campaign recently resumed fundraising, however, Abrams is continuing to ask donors to support abortion-rights groups.
Republican Gov. Brian Kemp recently indicated he has at minimum $10.7 million in cash available toward his campaign for reelection, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Kemp raised $2.7 million during the three-month period ending April 30, mired by a state law that disallows officeholders from receiving contributions while state lawmakers are meeting.
Since December, Abrams has earned contributions from 187,000 separate donors, her campaign told Fox 5 Atlanta.
