Georgia Tech’s Nicole Fegans set school and facility records on the way to winning the 3000-meter championship during the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 26 in Blacksburg, VA.
Fegans led for the first half of the race before falling behind the leader, but she pushed to the lead in the last 400 meters and won by 2.87 seconds, setting new marks for both Georgia Tech and the facility, and earning All-ACC first-team honors.
“We had some great individual efforts from the women that have led our team all season long,” Georgia Tech head coach Alan Drosky said in a release from the school. “Nicole winning, while smashing her own school and setting the facility record, was outstanding.”
Despite Fegans’ impressive performance, the Yellow Jackets finished 11th in the team competition at the ACC Indoor Championships at Virginia Tech’s home arena.
“As a team, we competed hard for an 11th place finish, but just lack the depth we need to compete at the level we want to be at,” Drosky said in the release. “Now, we wait to see if we advance any individuals to the upcoming NCAA’s, while also turning our focus to the outdoor season.”
