Georgia Tech hopes four football transfer players to shore up its offense this fall.
Redshirt sophomore Zach Gibson, offensive linemen Pierce Quick and Paul Tchio and tight end Luke Benson bring varying levels of collegiate experience to the Yellow Jackets squad, according to an article on ramblinwreck.com.
“I’m excited to welcome Luke, Zach, Pierce and Paul to the Georgia Tech football family,” head coach Geoff Collins said in the release. “All four are very talented football players, outstanding students and great young men who will be very valuable members of our football program on and off the field. I can’t wait to get back to work with our team."
Gibson brings the most playing experience. He put in three years at Akron, where he was 226-of-370 for 2,471 yards, 15 touchdowns and only eight interceptions even though he wasn’t a full-time starter. The redshirt sophomore has three seasons of eligibility left.
One of his targets will be Benson, a former Syracuse player, who caught 19 passes for 261 yards and five touchdowns over his three seasons. He is a junior with two seasons of playing time remaining.
Tchio and Quick will be among those protecting him against sacks. Both played with powerhouses. Quick, a redshirt sophomore, was at national runner-up Alabama, and Tchio, a sophomore, was with Clemson, a strong Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) program. Both have three seasons of playing left.
With the addition of experienced players, Tech is looking to improve upon its 2021 season, where the team went 3-9 overall, 2-6 in the ACC.
