Nicole Fegans of the Georgia Tech women’s track and field program furthered her reputation for rewriting the record books by setting a new indoor record for the 5000m.
According to a GT release Dec. 4, the senior from Douglasville logged a time of 15:42.73 at the Boston University Indoor Opener.
The mark bests Fegans’ own GT record in the indoor 5000m by 23.77 seconds, the school said.
She lays claim to the indoor mile and 3000m school records as well as the outdoor 1500m, 3000m and 10000m.
Head women’s track and field coach Alan Drosky lauded Fegans for her stellar performance.
“What a great way for Nicole to end an awesome calendar year of racing and kick-off a new season,” Drosky said in the release. “She continues to raise the standard for our distance events. We’re excited to see what she and her teammates can do in the new year.”
A business administration major, Fegans won the ACC women’s 10K title with a school and meet record mark of 32:45.30 in her first-ever collegiate 10K race upsetting one of the best fields in the country, according to her Ramblin’ Wreck profile.
She kicked off the 2021 season with a personal-best mark of 2:10.31 in the women’s 800m at the Yellow Jacket Invite.
Her accolades include but are not limited to 2021 USTFCCCA Outdoor Second Team All-American in the women’s 5K, 2021 All-ACC First Team Outdoor in the women’s 10K, and 2021 All-ACC Academic Indoor T&F.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Jan. 8, at the Clemson Orange & Purple Classic.
