Bruce Heppler, who led the Georgia Tech golf team to 13 Atlantic Coast Conference championships, 18 NCAA appearances and 67 total tournament victories, overall, has been selected for the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, a news release said.
“What a tremendous thrill to be honored in this way,” Heppler said in a statement. “To be recognized by the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame is even more meaningful when you think about the history, from the Jones family, the Masters, the Tour Championship and all the great players, coaches and teachers this state has produced, not to mention the tremendous college programs that exist in this state. It’s quite an honor."
He thanked Georgia Tech, the players and donors "for all they’ve done for our program.”
The Georgia State Golf Association also named longtime club professional Tommy Brannen of Augusta, University of Georgia All-America golfer Terri Moody Hancock of Athens, and "longtime advocate and contributor" William Lewis of College Park, Georgia to the Hall of Fame Class of 2022. That will bring the total number of people in the Hall of Fame to 127, the news release said.
Heppler is now in his 27th year as Georgia Tech golf coach.
He "has guided the Yellow Jackets’ program to every NCAA Regional since 1998, and 18 times to the NCAA Championship finals, where four of those teams advanced to match play," the news release said.
Only four times have the Yellow Jackets finished outside the top 10 in national polls, Georgia Tech said.
