Georgia Tech running backs coach Tashard Choice has been nominated for the 2021 Broyles Award, according to a press release.
Created in 1996, the Broyles Award honors college football’s top assistant coaches and is named after Georgia Tech alumnus and revered Arkansas head coach and athletics director Frank Broyles, who served as the Yellow Jackets' assistant coach from 1951-56 and helping to lead them to their third national championship in 1952.
"We see you, Champ! Coach Tashard Choice is officially a nominee for the Broyles Award!" Georgia Tech Football wrote in a Nov. 17 Facebook post.
A GT alumnus, who also serves as the Yellow Jackets’ offensive recruiting coordinator, Choice is in his third season with the program as the Tech’s running backs coach and is credited with helping to establish GT's highly ranked recruiting classes, including only the second top-25 class in program history in 2020 and successfully leading the Yellow Jacket's running backs.
"Under Choice’s tutelage, the Jackets’ top three running backs – Jahmyr Gibbs, Jordan Mason and Dontae Smith – have combined for a whopping 2,424 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games this season," Georgia Tech said on its website.
Gibbs is an all-America candidate who ranks No. 2 nationally with 1,680 all-purpose yards.
Choice previously spent two seasons at the University of North Texas as an offensive quality control assistant (2017), then as running backs coach (2018) before returning to Georgia Tech in 2019.
He played football for Georgia Tech from 2005-07 as a running back himself and was one of the most decorated student-athletes in the program's history. He went on to a six-year NFL career playing for the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts.
