Rep. David Scott (D-GA) pushed for more affordable housing to be included in President Biden's Building Back Better Plan.
Scott spoke last month during a Financial Services Committee hearing to examine recent severe declines in American homeownership, according to a press release from Scott's office.
“Congress must act swiftly to address the barriers that far too many Americans face when seeking to enter the housing market," Scott said after the hearing, according to the release. "I am grateful for the witnesses who joined us today to help shed light on some of the obstacles that hinder working families and those in marginalized communities."
Financial Services Committee witness Symon Crawford, director of Mass Affordable Housing Alliance, sided with Scott and agreed that the inclusion of affordable housing within the plan make a substantial impact on declining homeownership rates and financial stability for Americans, according to the release.
Encouraged by President Biden and other Democrats, the Build Back Better Act is aimed toward creating millions of well-paying jobs, inciting long-term growth and reducing price pressures in order to set the United States on course to meet its clean energy goals, according to a CNN report detailing the framework of the agenda.
As many Americans continue to struggle under the weight of high student loan debts, credit issues and the nationwide housing supply shortage, including more affordable housing would allow all U.S. citizens to benefit from the plan, according to the press release.
