Fulton County recently began administering Pfizer booster shots to residents who are eligible according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
“I just think it’s important to do whatever I can to minimize the spread of this virus, so I went to get my booster shot to make sure I’m well protected,’’ Davon Thomas, a Fulton resident who took advantage of the program – which started late last month – said in a Fulton County government video.
Authorities expect to administer 100 shots every day, WSB-TV reported. The doses will be administered to anyone who is 65 or older, and to anyone else whose job conditions put them at a higher risk of being infected by COVID-19.
Only the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine has been authorized as a booster dose, WSB-TV reported.
One quarter of appointments will be reserved for people receiving their first or second vaccine dose, according to WSB-TV. David Holland, chief clinical officer for Fulton County, told the station that the booster shots will mainly help in reducing hospitalizations, though they might not necessarily curb the spread of COVID-19.
