Doraville’s former General Motors plant will receive a huge send-off before its site becomes home to one of Georgia’s largest film production sites.
Doraville, which has a population of around 10,000 people, will host a car show that pays tribute to the facility that once served as its economic engine from 1946 to 2008 on June 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported
"I think that everybody or probably a lot of people have heard that great television or subsidiary of theirs acquired the full the entire hundred and thirty remaining acres of the assembly site. And their intention is to stick with the vision that had been laid out by the city and by previous developers to create a live-work-play environment. But the work part is going to be made up primarily of movie production or entertainment production type services,” Mayor Joseph Geierman told the "What's Up Dunwoody" podcast.
The work should start moving quickly this summer at the plant located near Peachtree Road and I-285, he said.
The plant produced some of Ford’s classic vehicles, including the ‘48 Oldsmobile, the AJC reported.
The car show, which is part of Doraville's 150th anniversary celebration, will feature hundreds of classic cars, the newspaper reported.
