Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has introduced Innovia 300R vehicles to its Automated People Mover system, known as the Plane Train. This marks a step in ATL’s modernization efforts. The Plane Train, operational since 1980 with an initial fleet of 17 Innovia CX100 vehicles, now includes 59 cars. By March 2026, ATL plans to add 14 Innovia 300R vehicles, bringing the total to 73.
Ana Maria Taroco, ATL’s Assistant General Manager for Planning and Development, stated: “We’re proud to usher in a new era of transit innovation at ATL. These new vehicles are not only energy-efficient and sustainable, but they are also a testament to our dedication to meeting and exceeding the evolving needs of our passengers and the aviation industry.”
The introduction of these new vehicles aims to improve passenger experience and operational capacity by increasing transport capacity from 10,000 to 12,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Additionally, wait times between trains will decrease from 108 seconds to just 90 seconds.
Last year, Hartsfield-Jackson hosted over 108 million passengers. The increased efficiency is expected to benefit those traveling through ATL.
The Innovia 300R models feature driverless operation capabilities with manual override options. Over time, ATL will phase out its older CX100 fleet in favor of the newer models.
