For the eighth consecutive year, Georgia’s public-school students have achieved higher SAT scores than the national average for public schools. The state’s class of 2025 posted a mean score of 1029, which is 33 points above the national average of 996.
Georgia students earned an average score of 526 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) section and 502 on the math section. In comparison, public school students nationwide averaged 508 in ERW and 488 in math.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods commented on the results: “Even as participation increases, Georgia students continue to outperform their peers across the nation on the SAT – a testament to the hard work of Georgia’s students, teachers, leaders, and families and the work we’ve done to invest in academic recovery and prepare all students for life. This reflects our Student Bill of Rights in action, ensuring every student in Georgia has the chance to succeed, no matter their path after graduation.”
Although Georgia’s mean score dropped slightly from last year’s average of 1030, participation increased. Fifty-five percent of Georgia’s class of 2025 took the SAT during high school, up from 52 percent for the class of 2024 and 50 percent for the class of 2023. Increased participation can sometimes result in moderate declines in overall performance.
