A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Fulton County Election Department in Georgia on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at South Fulton Today, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request seeks information about all candidates running for the upcoming spring election. Specifically, we requested the following details: the candidate’s first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation of the candidate; and contact information including address, phone number, and email address.

As a news organization, we rely heavily on access to public records to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as part of our application.

We believe that having access to this information will enable us to provide our readers with comprehensive coverage of the upcoming elections. It will also help promote transparency in electoral processes and ensure that voters have all necessary information about their candidates when making their decisions at the polls.

The Fulton County Election Department has yet to respond to our request. We remain committed to ensuring transparency in local government affairs and will continue pursuing this matter until we obtain the necessary records.
