A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Hapeville Employees Retirement System Combined Pension Plan on September 20, 2024. The request was made by South Fulton Today, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request seeks access to the pension roster for all active and retired employees within the organization’s pension fund for the year 2023. The specific data fields requested include last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount, year, process date, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and 2023 contribution amount.

South Fulton Today has stated that as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential in fulfilling their professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given their role in disseminating information to the public, South Fulton Today believes they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
